As far as movies about DC's Superman goes this one happens to be the most decent, yet it is long in a manner that makes it very dull at times.
However, if you plan on watching the upcoming Justice League movies you might wanna give this one a go as well.
I would still rate this movie highly, giving it a solid 7 out of 10 and for good reasons. This movie has seen the best writing for the character as far as "Superman" movies go, you can see Nolan's touch on the movie.
Henry Cavill does a great job portraying the character compared to his predecessors. The character still needs enrichment but that's more on the writing than the actor. I have seen Cavill play other roles and play them very well so I will assume it is the way the movie drags at times rather than the way he plays the role.
The effects used in this movie are very decent as well.
Except for Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, DC does not seem to be as capable as Marvel in scoring so many points in the cinematic universe. However, DC still scored more points than Marvel in the TV Universe.
As mentioned before if you are planning to watch the Justice League movies which I expect to be quiet decent when they are released you will definitely want to watch Man of Steel as part of the whole experience even if it drags at times. It still is a decent "Superman" movie after all, the best I have seen so far.
