Legends of Tomorrow: Who Is Todd Rice?

As part of our posts to give our readers a background check on the new superheroes joining on the second season of Legends of Tomorrow we now present you with Todd Rice whom we will also know as Obsidian as the new season comes to life.

Worth Noting that only today it was announced that Lance Henriksen has been cast in the role of Obsidian on the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow Season.

Obsidian

Lance Henriksen

Todd Rice or Obsidian was the son of Alan Scott the first superhero to bear the title Green Lantern. His mother Rose Canton was the golden age comics villain Thorn.  Todd was raised though in an abusive adoptive home. As a teenager he discovers he has a twin sister, Jennie (a.k.a. Jade) a superhero in the DC comics and a founder along with her brother of the superhero team Infinity Inc.. After he meets his sister they both discover their superpowers and decide to follow in their father's footsteps. Infinity Inc. is basically a superhero team-up composed of the descendants and proteges of the members of the JSA.

His mother being a villain was a product of a multiple personality disorder. Rose was the good personality of both while Thorn was the villain. Unfortunately for Todd he inherited the disorder and turned villain down the road after being corrupted by Ian Karkull a scientist and archaeologist turned supervillain. In the comics after he is cured, Obsidian retired. Todd's powers went dormant during most of his retirement period only to return following the death of Jade during the Infinite Crisis event. At that point Obsidian returned to being a superhero.

Obsidian's powers are shadow-based powers originating from his father's exposure to shadow energy after a battle with Ian Karkull. At will he can merge with his own shadow and possess shadows of others. He is stronger in shadow form than in human form making him able to pass through solids and fly. Obsidian also has limited telepathic abilities and is resistant to low amounts of antimatter and hence in his shadow form shadow demons can't hurt him but he can deal damage to them. His sister Jade on the other hand possessed abilities like the ones their father had before her.

Given the age of the actor Lance Henriksen who will portray the role of Obsidian we can only assume that he will be in the period of his life post his villainous days and post the death of Jade.

Legends of Tomorrow will return to the CW this October.
