Legends of Tomorrow Season 2: Who is Amaya Jiwe?

As promised in this post we will give you the notion on how we will end up with Amaya Jiwe as Vixen instead of Mari McCabe in the second season of legends of tomorrow, along who both characters at least according to the comics version. But before you read ahead we would like to remind you that if you have missed our post on Hour-Man and his background story you can always go back and check it out through this link. We will be posting on the remaining three characters namely Stargirl, Obsidian and Dr. Mid-Nite shortly as well.

Vixen

Maisie Richardson-Sellers
The Vixen actress Megalyn Echikunwoke who guest starred on Arrow in the role and does the voice-over for the short animated series will not reprise her role due to her engagement with other commitments. The creators of the show who wanted to bring Vixen into the Legends fold found an alternative in actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers who is to portray Vixen in the second season of Legends of Tomorrow.

However, while Megalyn portrayed Mari McCabe, Maisie will portray a different version of Vixen namely Amaya Jiwe. In the comics Mari's full name is Mari Jiwe McCabe. Amaya happens to be her grandmother.

Vixen's powers are the product of a totem that was passed down through her family through generations. The totem was originally created by Anansi (An African folktale character who usually takes the shape of a spider and is considered the spirit of all knowledge in folktale stories). In ancient Africa, Tantu the warrior asked Anansi to create a totem that would give its bearer the powers of the animal kingdom combined. The intention was to use it to protect the innocent and through the use of the totem Tantu became a legendary hero.

The totem was passed down his lineage until it reached the McCabes which is how it ended up in Amaya's possession.

The story of how Mari ended up with the totem is much more complicated but considering she will not be part of legends we do not really need to go into the details here.

Finally, it is worth nothing that out of all the new roster of superheroes we will see in the sophomore season of Legends of Tomorrow what we know so far is Vixen is the only one we will see joining the team as a member while the rest are going to appear as part of the Justice Society of America.

Legends of Tomorrow returns to the CW this October.
