Legends of Tomorrow Season 2: Who Is Rex Tyler

DC's Legends of Tomorrow has announced some changes to the team going forward into its second season. We already know from the finale of its first season that Hawkman and Hawkgirl are quitting the team.

We have already seen Hour-man portrayed by Patrick J. Adams introducing himself as part of the Justice Society of America (JSA). But who is Hour-man? And who are the other heroes who we will have introduced into the second season of the DC series namely Stargirl, Obsidian and Mid-Nite?

We also know from the news already out there that Vixen is going to be joining our legends team. But why are we not getting Mari McCabe and rather getting Amaya Jiwe as another version of Vixen?

This post and the few to follow will answer these questions about the new characters joining the cast on Legends of Tomorrow in its sophomore season.

Hour-man (or Hourman)

Hour-man's mantle in the comic books was taken by three characters Rex Tyler, his son Rick Tyler and an android modeled after Rex's DNA Mathew Tyler. Patrick J. Adams will be playing Rex Tyler's version of Hour-man on Season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow.

In the comics Rex Tyler was a scientist with interests in biochemistry. After hard work and multiple discoveries coupled with a few accident he created Miraclo, a vitamin concentrated doses of which when tested on mice increased their strength in multiples of normal. After taking a dose he found he could have superhuman strength and speed for the hour that Miraclo's effects lasted before both returned to normal human level and hence the name Hour-Man.

Hourman was as well one of the founding members of the Justice society of America. After leaving the JSA he also became a member of the All-Star Squadron.

In the comic books the number of doses of Miraclo that can be used per day varied in different instances. It seemed in some issues once per day was the maximum possible dosage. In others it seems that he could take one as soon as the effects of its predecessor wore of. There was a third group of issues in which it seemed he had to wait an hour after the effects of a pill wore off before he could use a second one.

In all cases how these little kinks will be played out is unknown to us at the moment, so all we can do is wait and find out when the second season starts airing.

Legends of Tomorrow returns this October on CW.
