Larry Crowne (2011): Review (Minor Spoilers)

Even in a half pure drama, half chick-flick, they are still amazing actors. Tom Hanks and Julia Robets knew how to deliver the funny in this movie. Tom Hanks' role and performance brings us back to the good old days of similar romantic roles he starred in like Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail, those three magical words.

The title role played by Hanks is a middle-aged Navy veteran who is fired from his job due to his lack of college education compared to his peers regardless of his seniority and exemplary work. At that point he decides to reinvent himself by getting a college education.

Julia Roberts on the other hand starts as the bored, extremely annoyed teacher who realizes her students do not give a damn but she outgrows the feeling when her students become more and more interested in her class. She also leads an unhappy life on the personal level with her husband portrayed by Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad).

The actors and actresses in the movie deliver a dramatic at times, funny at times performance. George Takei was exceptionally hilarious, so was Cedric the Entertainer.

All in all, while the movie might not be the best the lead actor and actress ever had to offer and while it might not be the best movie of its year, or any year for that matter, or even close to be the best, it still is a decent to watch movie if you are looking for a romantic comedy with some story line other than just the romance portion, which to be honest doesn't even start early on in the movie.

All in all I give the movie a rating of 6.0 out of 10.0.
