Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Spoiler Review

All good things must come to an end and from all the background noise it seems Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) will no more play Captain America after this movie. But nothing seems to be set in stone yet, so here is to hoping that is not the case.

Over the past few years, Marvel has managed to pump out so many great movies and while the Iron Man Trilogy started great then degraded in quality as it hit its third sequel and while the same goes for the second Thor movie and the second Avengers movie, the Captain America movies seem to have worked the other way round. For starters the first sequel was way better than the first movie, and the second sequel beat them both.

Besides pumping so many good movies and beating DC at the Cinematic Universe even though Marvel seems to fall behind in the TV Universe, Marvel is also managing to pump so many new characters, we will be seeing Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel on the big screen very soon.

Back to Captain America: Civil war, where we start off hearing about the "Sokovia Accords" which was approved by 117 countries requiring that "The Avengers are no more a private organization but rather operate under the supervision of a UN panel and only when said panel sees the need for them".

"The Avengers" registering under the Sokovia Accords becomes a requirement where they cannot operate under their own volition and it is what starts a rift between the Avengers, with Tony Stark (Ironman) agreeing to the Accords and Steve Rogers (Captain America) on the other end in an effort to both protect the Avengers as an entity and to protect his best friend Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) who in the comic books ends up becoming the next Captain america once Steve Rogers vanishes and is deemed dead, a point that we will discuss later in this Article.

What adds to the fire is the framing of Bucky Barnes for the murder of King T'Chaka the chieftain of Wakanda which adds the Black Panther (whom we discover is T'Challa, T'Chaka's son) joining in against team Captain America. Another addition to the fire was Tony Stark's discovery that Bucky Barnes murdered his parents while being the Winter Soldier and under the control of Hydra.

The movie takes us into a war between both teams, a war where there are no winners really. On one side Tony Stark's team composed of Iron Man, Black Widow, War Machine, Vision, Black Panther and at some point Spider-Man ends up with War Machine with severe damage after going for a fall from the sky. Whether Don Cheadle is going to be more than James Rhodes ever again is yet to be seen. On the other hand team Steve Rogers composed of Captain America, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and at some point Ant-Man are outlaws throughout the movie.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel at the end of the movie. Black Panther helps Rogers hide Bucky closer to the end of the movie and we see Stark reading a letter from Rogers so even with the drift everything seems back to normal except Steve Rogers seems to have given up and put down the mantle of Captain America.

SPIDER-MAN & ANT-MAN:

One of the best things about Civil War is the introduction of Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man and of course the post credit scene introducing his upcoming Spider-Man movie. Holland seems more cheerful than previous portrayals of the character which will add a decent touch of comedy that is much needed in the Spider-Man movies like all other Marvel movies. In the major fight in the movie Spider-Man along with Ant-Man delivers a ton of comedy, the former with verbal comedy where he is powerful yet a bit childish and the latter with a mix of verbal and action comedy.

The movie also promises that one or both characters will probably be part of the Avengers: Infinity War and probably any future Avengers Movies.

Wanda Maximoff seems to be part of the Avengers team now as well and Elizabeth Olsen is so great in her portrayal of the character.

MISSING IN ACTION:

While most Avengers and then some were part of the movie, Thor was missing in action probably back home doing with more issues. Bruce Banner (Hulk) is deemed missing since he ran away at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

THE NEXT CAPTAIN AMERICA:

Rumor has it that Captain Marvel might be the next Captain America. That would be a variation of the comic books where Bucky Barnes becomes the next Captain America following the disappearance of Steve Rogers. So let's keep our fingers crossed cause I wouldn't really mind the continuation of Steve Rogers as the Captain.

AGENT CARTER NO MORE:

Peggy Carter just can't take a break. ABC cancelled its 2 season TV series Agent Carter and then Marvel cancelled her as Sharon Carter had to bury her aunt in Civil War. Goodbye, Agent Carter.

THE VERDICT:

Captain America: Civil War deserves its rise into the top 250 movies of all time list on IMDb. In my personal opinion the movie deserves a solid 9.5 out of 10.0. Definitely Worth your time.
