In the comics Roberto Reyes or Robbie Reyes is a Mexican-American living in Los Angeles and driving black classic muscle car instead of a motorcycle. He is introduced as a high school student, working as a mechanic and living with his disabled brother Gabe. His biggest wish is to move away from the gang-riddles streets he lives, a wish that leads him to enter a street race with high hopes to win the prize money and move away. He is gunned down by mercenaries trying to retrieve pills left in the car which leads to his revival as a demonic being with a satanic helmet like head. His car becomes similarly ablaze to Ghost Riders before him.
That's where Robbie becomes a local superhero as he is introduced to Eli Morrow, the spirit bound to his car of a man killed by gang members, who also offers to help him clean up his neighborhood. We get a reveal later on in the comics that Eli is none other than Robbie's uncle a serial killer gunned down by the police in the late 1990s. Besides fighting crime the comics continuously depicts a fight between both Robbie and Eli over control of the former's body leading in the end to an agreement to a permanent bond between them with a promise from the former to sate the thirst of the latter for blood but only by killing those who deserve it, those with evil souls.
According to Johnny Blaze (the first Ghost Rider), the ghost of Eli Morrow inhibiting Robbie's body is no spirit of Vengeance, however he does still provide Robbie with powers similar to those of other Ghost Rider's before him including the power to manifest and control chains ending with sharp objects and knives. Besides having superhuman strength, stamina, durability and healing, Robbie has the ability to generate, control and project hellfire. The mystical stare of Robbie projects every bit of pain those who stare directly into his eyes has brought upon others. Robbie in addition to regular Ghost Rider powers has the power to duplicate himself when in or close to his car.
Robbie is also an expert stunt rider and a skilled hand to hand combatant.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which will bring the Robbie character into its fold on its upcoming fourth season returns this fall with all new episodes on ABC.
