The Blacklist: New Trailer, Speculations & News

So NBC's the blacklist has had a new trailer for its upcoming fourth season released. The trailer which you can find below this article. The trailer is two minutes and twelve seconds long with the better of one minutes and about twenty seconds of recap of the third season but the last fifty seconds are pure fourth season stuff.

We see a few scenes the most important of which is Raymond entering a room with a dimmed glass wall, sort of like an interrogation room. Alexander Kirk welcomes him, Raymond asks Liz if she is okay and she tells him she is on his left so he shoots in the direction in which Kirk is supposed to be standing on the other side of the glass. We then see Elizabeth punching Kirk followed by a few not necessarily related scenes.

Then there is a scene with a human head on the table around which a bunch of Mexicans are sitting, one of them at least is a Mexican police officer. Raymond asks them who the head worked for in return for keeping 'the money' and they seem to refuse and after bullets are shot, don't know if the Mexicans are killed, well most of them at least, the police officer agrees to give him a name and that's that.

However, this is not what's most important about this trailer. First and foremost, there is seemingly a scarcity of Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold). There is also the fact that Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) seems to be back in the business of trusting Raymond Reddington (James Spader).

Let's take a moment to try and draw a few speculations:

- Lizzy is going to go back to the one constant realization she ends up having every time she tries to escape life around Reddington, she is the safest when she is actually around him even though danger seems to follow her.

- Lizzy does not believe Alexander Kirk's not so convincing admission from the third season's finale, "I am your father, Masha." That or she is having a Luke Skywalker meets Darth Vader moment and she doesn't want to go to the dark side.

- The show seems to plan on phasing Tom slowly in a matter of the first few episodes. The lack of a Tom Keen in the fourth season scenes of the trailer can only be indicative of that. I am assuming something around the lines of Red being back in Liz's good graces is going to piss him off and they will have a fall out. The actor Ryan Eggold is to resume his role as Tom Keen in the new spin-off of the Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption which is scheduled to premiere in January 2017. There has been rumors already circulating that some fallout might be the way to get Tom out of the original series and move him to his new series.

- Alexander Kirk is probably going to be a Berlin like character who will remain the antagonist for as long as we have episodes before the fall finale, after which the show usually goes on Hiatus for a few months before it presumably returns sometime in Spring 2017 as it has been the case the past couple of seasons.

In the trailer we also get a slightly different promise in this trailer, than the previously aired teaser. "It's time to uncover Liz's twisted path." I wonder if that's their way of saying we will give you part of the story, but the father is not really something you will find about anytime soon. Well I would hate for that to happen because the show has so much potential anyway it doesn't need to keep the viewers put by this one thread. James Spader's acting is what's keeping most viewers glued to their seats.

On another note the spin-off series, The Blacklist: Redemption, is going to address our favorite antagonist, yet most hated only for some real fine acting, Matias Solomon (Edi Gathegi). Actress Famke Janssen will resume the role of Susan Halstead (Scottie) which she portrayed in the last few episodes of the third season of the original series. Just a reminder during these episodes Reddington happened to tell Tom about how Susan was his mother. A couple of scenes later, we saw Susan and Tom having a conversation in which he asked her about a child in a picture in her place and she told him about how he was her young boy who disappeared, was never found and was presumed dead.

The Blacklist returns to NBC on the 22nd of September with all new episodes.
