As a big fan of Tom Hanks there will always be some bias in how I review his movies. However, setting that bias aside and considering Tom Hanks was impressive but not the most impressive in this particular movie, my review is going to be as fair as it gets.
The movie stars Tom Hanks as the infamous Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as writer P. L. Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins novel as well as Paul Giamatti as Ralph, a driver assigned by Walt Disney to drive P. L. Travers during her visit to the U.S. in an effort from Walt Disney to turn her novel into a movie.

Throughout the movie we understand through flashbacks of her own childhood how the novel was inspired by her childhood, and how Mary Poppins is the aunt who miraculously helped put the life of her family back together in the darkest of times. And at some point we understand that Mary Poppins wasn't about saving the children but rather saving the father, Mr. Banks as in the title.
The movie is so beautifully made and the acting is superb, the development of the relationship between Giamatti and Thompson from total disgust and annoyance on the latter's end to a friendship was extremely well developed and well acted. The visit made by Disney to Travers at some point in the movie where he expresses his understanding of her book and the reasons behind her unhappiness with the way he wanted to make the movie. That was pretty touching as well.
Performances by other actors and actresses including Colin Farell, Ruth Wilson, Bradley Whitford, Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak are also worthy of a big deal of appreciation.
I rate this movie with a solid 7.5 if not 8.0 out of 10.0 and I recommend you watch it. Thanks for tuning in.
